-How does the the perspective/ point of view of the narrator influence the story?
It is very good they believe in a lot of things, they also like adventuring and follow people that are a bad influence also we know what Huck-Finn thinks if its mad up or its real.
Chapter 6-11
1. Explain why Pap has Huck locked up.
Pap has huck locked up because huck wont go to school and hangs out with his friends a lot.
2. Create a visual of how Huck escapes The Shanty.
So huck is in this old shack or cabin and locks him up, huck was in there for a little and he finds a old saw, so what does he do, he cuts a hole in the wall because it is made of wood and then he escapes from the woods.
3. In chapter 8 Huck and Jim run into each other. Huck says that people will call him a “low down Ablitionist and dispise me for keeping mum” in reference to Jim running away. Explain what it means to be an Abolitionist. Why is it Huck is concerned about being called one? You’ll have to consider both the time period and the setting of the novel to answer the question.
Because huck likes to be nice to people and dosen't want to be called things that he is not.
4. There are several things that give Huck away when he pretends to be a girl. List them. Then, come up with 3 things that would give a boy away and 3 things that would give a girl away (if the roles were reversed) in our modern times.
Huck cant really do a high pitch voice and he dosen't have a body like one either and the hair is too short at the time.

Chapter 12-16
1. What is the story of King Solomon and his child? How does Jim interpret that story?
He said that if he had a lot of wives then he wasn't really smart after all, and is bad about spliting the kid in two and ruining his life.
2. When Jim wakes up after their separation in the fog, what does Jim’s reaction to Huck tell us about him? How do you feel about Jim at this point?
Jim wasn't very happy because he was a slave and black so jim really didn't like it, so they didn't talk for a little.
3. Jim is very superstitious. From a historical standpoint, why do you think this is?
Because Jim asked how will we know when we get there and huck went to the shore and told lies o him so he would feel better so Jim got a little superstitious because he probalbly know he was telling a lie.
4. “It was fifteen minutes before I could work myself up to go and humble myself to a nigger – but I done it, and I warn’t ever sorry for it afterwards, neither.” What does this line tell us about Huck?
Huck is really not helping Jim hes basicaly turning him in so huck is kinda of a mean person to be doing this to some one.
5. At the end of chapter 16 Huck is struggling with giving Jim up. Outline the battle that he has
with himself, and explain his actions when the men come up looking for the 5 escaped slaves.
So huck dosent want to give up on Jim because hes a human being too, and he dosent want jim to be hurt because they have basically took everything away from him so huck dosent want that for him again.
He said that if he had a lot of wives then he wasn't really smart after all, and is bad about spliting the kid in two and ruining his life.

Chapter 17-21
1.Describe the Grangerford family (Chapter 17 &18).
They are a family that are really nice to huck and let him stay at there house a long as they want.
2.Mark Twain alludes that the feud between the Grangerfords and the Shepherdsons is about traditional feuds between farmer (“granger”) and rancher (“shepherd”). Why would he write this into the novel? What does it say about these two occupations at this time (Chapter 18)?
Because they are always doing something like how they go to church with rifles between there knees, but the thing is they don't know how the beef started.
3.Toward the end of chapter 18 Huck says “I don’t want to talk much about the next day. I reckon I’ll cut it pretty short.” Huck says this prior to telling us about the big battle. How does our narrator’s perspective play a role in what we think and feel reading this section (Chapter 18)?
Huck doesn't feel like hes doing the right things and that his friends lead him down the wrong path so he dosn't want to talk to them for a day to think
4.Explain who the King and the Duke are. Why does Huck go along with their story (Chapter 19)?
Because he wanted to see where there story was going to see how big of liers they air and to see if they say anything important
5.What problems do you anticipate with the Duke’s solution to how they can all run the raft during the day (Chapter 20)?
I feel like they would start heading in the wrong derrection because they lied to him before
6.Illustrate the town that the play will be held in (Chapter 21).

Chapter 22-26
Question 1- The line at the end of the handbill says "Ladies and children are not admitted". The handbill would get people into play because many men would do things if their wives can't come. It allows them to have a "night off" and have more freedom due to the fact that their wives and kids can't come (because they aren't admitted). It's a night for the boys.
Question 2- Jim has so much to worry about, Huck didn't want to add anything else to his plate. I think Huck doesn't find any use in telling him because he plans on leaving the situation eventually. I think Jim already figures that they are fake so, Huck doesn't find any importance in telling him something that is irrelevant.
Question 3- In the book Huck says "It was enough to make a body ashamed of the human race.” . I think that he said this because the King and the Duke being as greedy as they are, decided to act as the brothers of a dead man to gain his land and wealth he left behind. They also made Jim and Huck pretend to be their servants. So overall I think that Huck was ashamed that they were posing to be people they weren't especially when they were talking about an actual life being lost.
Question 4- The Doctor knew that the King and the Duke were frauds because when the Duke gave his speech his British accent wasn't good or believable. The Doctor claimed it to be the worst accent he had ever heard because of this he knew that the King and the Duke were con-men and weren't actually related because they didn't know anything about the man himself or his life.
Question 5- The king and duke are thinking about leaving in the middle of the night with all the money.

Chapter 27-30
1) Back in this day, it was common for people to stay alongside their dead family and friends to protect them from insects and rodents. This was called "Shemira". It was to show they still respected the body until they get lowered into the ground.
2) Huck is showing again how much empathy he has for people, Mary Jane being very upset with the fact that slave families were being torn apart, Huck explains how they will see each-other again. Huck also knew she was struggling because she sat and cried next to the casket.
3) The townspeople used two methods in trying to identify who the brothers were and who the frauds were. One of these methods was testing handwriting samples by having each person sign a piece of paper and comparing it to letters that have been sent from the real Harvey. The second method occurs when it is revealed that the brother had a tattoo on his chest.

Chapter 31-35
1.Huck says “You can’t pray a lie.” What lie is he trying to pray about? What does he mean?
Huck is praying about the lie he was telling to himself to make him feel better about stealing away Jim from Ms.Watson. He was in distress because Jim had been found while the Reward flyer was still out and he was captured. The man who found him took 40 dollars instead of the 200 promised and then went up the river. He was thinking about what to do to get Jim out of slavery and he was going to write to Ms.Watson to tell her where Jim was, but then he decided not to because it would tell the people that Huck had been helping a slave escape.
2.Why does Huck tear up the letter he writes?
Huck was going to write to Tom Sawyer to tell him Miss Watson about Jim, but he realizes that she would sell Jim anyway. He was then going to write to Miss Watson, but then he also realizes that if the story got out that he helped a slave escape, he would be ashamed. He tried praying for forgiveness, but his heart wasn't in the prayer.
3.Huck is disappointed that Tom would help him steal Jim. He says “Tom Sawyer fell, considerable, in my estimation. Only I couldn’t believe it. Tom Sawyer a nigger stealer!” What do you think of this?
I feel like Huck is kind of sad that Tom wants to help steel Jim back. Once Huck left all really got was praise and had no completion for wit or attention. Now it is almost like Huck has a competitor, but at the same time I feel like Huck is relived that his old friend is with him in a a time when he needed him most.
4.Huck says two things at the end of chapter 33:
1.“Human beings can be awful cruel to one another.”
2.“But that’s always the way: it don’t make no difference whether you do right or wrong, a person’s conscience ain’t go no sense, and just goes for him anyway.”
What does Huck mean by these two statements?
Huck means that no matter what, humans are always very mean to each other. He is expressing that it does not matter if you do what it right or what is wrong because people will always judge and try to put you down in some kind of way.
5.Why are Tom and Huck looking for a more difficult way to break Jim free? (
When Huck told his plan it was a good, sound, functioning plan that would have gotten Jim, Huck, and Tom out okay and safe.Tom agreed it would work, but he said it was took plain and not worth the while if they could not have any excitement or story worthiness. Toms plan was basically just to barge in and play it off from there. Huck thought this was very foolish because Tom actually had an identity and an identity to keep safe from foolery and other things that might soil his good nature, and the nature of his family and friends back home. Tom instead on helping and doing ti his way so there was no use in Huck arguing him. Tom ends up almost ruining the whole operation when they find Jim, but Tom is clever and got them out of situation.

chapter 36-40
- In the process of breaking Jim free, what is Tom’s motivation? What is Huck’s motivation?
- What do Huck and Tom mean when they say they “let on” about something? Why do they do this?
- Why is Tom writing the letters and posting warnings? Why did he give instructions to his aunt and uncle’s slave? What are his motivations for this?
- We’ve worked a great deal on this novel’s satirical elements. How is the planning and plotting of Jim’s escape by Tom and Huck satire?
- Towards the end of the chapter Huck says “I knew he was white inside” about Jim. Why does he say this and what does he mean?
